List of Japanese Buffets in Singapore

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I am starting 2011 with a pigout post!

Chiharu Weekend Omakase Buffet
Singaporeans love their buffets and they love Japanese food. So it's only natural that Japanese buffets are flourishing! It's certainly a great way to try a wide variety of dishes, or to wantonly indulge in your favourite dishes. However, in many cases the buffet becomes a matter of quantity over quality, so choose wisely. Personally, I'd rather save up for a memorably good buffet, than go for several of the cost-cutting ones.

I am doing this list because I get asked a lot about Japanese buffets.

Here are nearly 40 restaurants offering buffet options, in alphabetical order. I will put some reviews (either my own or others) below the buffet for reference. And just like my high tea buffet list, it's compiled from websites and phone calls, so it's accurate mainly at time of posting. Because things change so rapidly, please call the restaurant ahead to confirm prices, availability, timing, reservations, etc. I will keep updating if I see changes.

So let's see the full list below!

AKARI

  6. Thank you very much indeed for such a fantastic list. I am bringing my Australian born family to visit Singapore and Malaysia in late January to celebrate CNY. It cost an arm and a leg to eat at Japanese restaurant in Sydney. Now with our strong Aussie dollars we can enjoy whatever Singapore can offered us including all the hawkers food.

  7. I just had Z'en Japanese Cuisine Buffet. Gotta say, definitely one of the top 3 japanese buffets in Singapore! The clientele is also mainly Japanese.

The centerpiece is basically the beef shabu shabu (which was awesome), and there are like another 30 - 40 items, but almost everything was excellently prepared. Compared to other jap buffets, where there are 90+ items, i picked Zen anytime of the day.

  13. I recently went to kushi dining bar for their buffet.
Sashimi is not fresh tasting, tuna a bit sourish, ebi was slimy
prawn tempura and Lobster soup was tasteless
I suspect the proteins are frozen for some time
i was dissappointed as i read good reviews from several forum last year and before.
Does anyone else feel the same way?

  15. Wow, the way u put it, it seems all their sashimi are not fresh at all.. In order for that to happen, there are only 2 possibilities: 1. Their business is real lousy n thus slow turnover. 2. They put their sashimi in storage for a long time before serving to you. In both cases, it does not seem likely as they are almost always full as I hv been there a couple of times. And I guess it would not make sense for them to order a huge qty given their size or worse , put in extra effort to keep it long enough to be "unfresh". Guess it is easier to serve fast n gd than use up the storage space. The sums doesn't add up , honey. Hmm..

  16. I guess you are defending them because you have eaten well there in the past. I hope you can prove me wrong by going there again :P
For me -its a never. Not worth the money really. -Shirley

  17. What an impressive list!! Can you recommend a good one for someone who couldn't take raw japanese food? Thanks in advance.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anonymous just above: Most of these would have a lot of cooked food choices. It's the raw stuff that's expensive and (usually) given sparingly! :)

  19. Thanks for the reply Camemberu. Yeah unfortunately my tummy couldn't take raw food...:)

Which japanese buffet would you recommend if you had only 1 meal in Singapore? Our priority is quality over quantity, and not limited by price.

  24. Hi, Gyu Kaku is having another buffet promotion in their newest branch at Anchorpoint. From 21 May to 21 June 2012. As the buffet at HV branch had been discontinued, the Anchorpoint branch is the only outlet offering the promo.

  27. The Gyu-Kaku buffet is back at its Anchorpoint branch. Mon to Thurs dinner service. Most likely will continue for a longer period this time.

  28. A few months back, my friends and i went for the Gyu-Kaku buffet at Anchorpoint. It was really bad. the meat selection was very limited. there were only 2 or 3 types of beef, which didn't matter ultimately because the quality of the beef was really REALLY LOW. it looked grey and tasted dodgy, on par with or worse than the cheap beef used in some hawker center western food stalls. we've tried other branches of Gyu-Kaku and know that's not the usual standard. so we mentioned this as well as the low quality to the manager, who said smilingly and apologetically that this was the meat used for the buffet as it was free flow. (!!!)

the beef is really appallingly bad for a restaurant. we ended up eating cheap nonsense stuff like fried chicken and gyozas. pretty expensive, considering it cost about $50+ after service charge and GST.

    1. Hi Kcai, did you create a blogger profile just to give me the comment? Thanks for the feedback. I've not tried the Anchorpoint branch of any of the Gyu-kaku's buffets, but thanks for the tip. I would not be too surprised as lower quality beef for buffets, but what you described sounds pretty bad. Might as well eat less but eat well from their regular menu?
