An Evening at the Spanish Ambassador's with La Cicala and Cheaptickets.sg

Flamenco dancers at the Spanish Ambassador's Residence
We had a warm reception at the Spanish Ambassador's residence recently, complete with flamenco dancers, tapas and paella. It was a great pleasure meeting H.E. Federico Palomera Guez and his wife at their beautiful black and white colonial bungalow at Mount Pleasant Drive.

CheapTickets.sg isn't afraid to be cheap
The Spanish Fiesta was held by online travel agency Cheaptickets.sg which has recently launched in Singapore. As their name suggests, they are all about cheap air travel but also cover hotels. They are currently holding a School Holiday Bonanza promotion – Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, Rome.

All prices stated include taxes and fees, and are the exact amount that the consumer will pay at the end of transaction. But I couldn't find the price I wanted for some destinations, so maybe those have been snapped up already.

La Cicala Spanish Restaurant
I absolutely must share with you the excellent find we had in the catering. La Cicala (49 Club Street, tel: 6534-8812) created delicious tapas of Montadito de Jamon (Spanish Serrano ham) and Pincho de Queso Manchego (Manchego cheese), and a huge paella that was one of the best I've had in Singapore.

The chef pan-fried succulent scallops, prawns, chicken and squid along with sofrito, and immersed it all in a gorgeous seafood stock. All those flavours got soaked up by Bomba rice from Valencia (it apparently absorbs 10 times more water than regular rice).

I promise you I will check out La Cicala.

But first I have a S$50 voucher to give out. All you have to do is comment below, to say which destination you're aiming for, and email me your mailing address. I will randomly pick a winner by noon Monday, 5 March 2012. The flight has to be booked before 15 March for departure before 15 Sept 2012. Good luck!
