Canon Announces EOS M6, 77D and 800D Cameras

Canon today announced five new camera products that aim to provide greater convenience while upholding excellent image quality. Oh the upgrade bug! I'm tempted to go for one of these and sell my existing Canon EOS 70D. I still have my trusty 400D which served me exceptionally well from 2008 - 2015. And a really old film SLR...hmm, I really need to let go.

Here are the brief descriptions:

EOS M6 and EVF-DC2

The EOS M6 is the latest addition to Canon’s mirrorless range of cameras designed as modern all-rounder reflecting the best balance of convenient portability and easy functionality. Equipped with advanced technologies which are adopted from the professional EOS range cameras, the compact-size EOS M6 weighs approximately 390 grams (including the body, battery and card) and achieves high speed and a sharply precise AF that is capable of capturing fast moving subjects in still or videos. Available in sophisticated black graphite and vintage silver and black combination, the EOS M6 packs a punch with the new APS-C sensor and DIGIC 7 image processor to deliver high image clarity with low noise levels.

The EVF-DC2 is the optional Electronic View Finder.

The new EOS 77D is the latest DSLR model with the world’s fastest AF speed. EOS 77D encapsulates the latest of Canon’s cutting-edge imaging technology including Dual Pixel CMOS AF system (DAF), DIGIC 7 image processor with high resolution 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor. These are the advanced technology which powers the world’s fastest AF focusing speed of 0.03 seconds during live view. Akin to premium models, the EOS 77D also features a top LCD display panel that reflects setting information such as shutter speed, aperture value, ISO and exposure levels, while the two control dials allow users a higher level of control.

I notice that the wi-fi gets its own physical button now.

The EOS 800D is designed for beginners looking for superior quality images and the convenience of mobility. Designed with simplicity as a focus, the EOS 800D boasts a host of advanced functions such as the cutting-edge Dual Pixel CMOS Auto-Focus (DAF), a first for an entry-level DSLR model, a 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, and the latest DIGIC 7 image processor propels the EOS 800D to produce brilliant pictures and videos. The lighting fast AF speed will empower users to capture dynamic scenes and fast moving subjects. Weighing at approximately 485 grams (body only), the EOS 800D is a great option for photographers who enjoy the portability and convenience which comes with a lighter camera, while the touchscreen interface makes it easy for budding photographers to navigate the functionalities of the camera.

Oddly enough, the dial is on the right side, unlike in the 77D which is on the left.

The EF-S18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM is a compact lens that is significantly smaller than its cousins in the same class, making it the perfect kit lens for users concerned with bulk. Its focal length ranges from 29-88mm, covering the semi-wide-angle and mid-telephoto angles of view that are most convenient for travel and portrait photography.

Pricing and availability will be revealed at a later date. All photos courtesy of Canon Singapore.
