GoroGoro Steamboat Buffet at Tampines 1 and Centrepoint

Are you always on the lookout for a good steamboat buffet? For me, the ingredients have to be fresh and good, or else it won't be worth eating, no matter how cheap it is. Fortunately, GoroGoro is one place that delivers very decent all-you-can-eat steamboat at affordable prices. We went to the one at Tampines 1. Their Centrepoint outlet is re-opening soon on 11 Nov 2020.

GoroGoro offers seven choices of soup bases, including Beauty Collagen, Fiery Mala, Tomato and Singapore's popular Pepper Bakuteh. The buffet comes with free-flow drinks and Korean & local favourite cooked dishes, such as Korean chicken wings, mala xiang guo and yam paste dessert!

The name is not actually Japanese or Korean, but an onomatopoeia, a word that mimics a sound. In this case, it's a rumbly tummy or the roiling boil of a good steamboat going. I have known both to happen at the same time! Haha. 

 

Everything is now served to your table. Just tick what you want on the order chit, and enjoy unlimited servings. Doesn't this just look like an indulgent feast? The good thing about steamboat is most of the food is cooked in a soup, not deep-fried, so you won't feel overly satiated. Yes, there are deep-fried snacks in the appetiser section. 

Yaaassss....look at them chicken wings! Available for dinner/weekends only though.




Also incredibly addictive, the salted egg yolk popcorn chicken! Again, dinner/weekends only.




Korean rice cake tteokbokki!




Glossy Korean Japchae!




Korean pancake or pajeon! 

There was also a nian gao (sticky glutinous rice cake) fritter (only for dinner/weekends) that was so good but I didn't get any good pics.




There's a Mock Sharks Fin soup too, a starchy one, but your steamboat broth is going to be even better, so go easy on this one. This is only for dinner/weekends, when you'll also get mala xiang guo, cheese tofu, fried beancurd skin, in addition to the chicken wings, popcorn chicken and nian gao. For lunch you have fries, chicken nanban, sweet potato, braised pork, egg and taupok, along with japchae, pancake and tteobokki.

There are so many ingredients to choose from. I miss the freedom of picking the items that I want, and feel bad troubling the staff to bring me the items. But it's safer this way rather than having everyone throng at the ingredient displays.












For dinner and weekends/PH, you get additional ingredients like Beef Roll, Dory Fish, Mussels, Prawns, White Clams and Octopus Tentacles.
 

Even the sauces will be mixed and served to you tableside, according to the combination you pick.



We went for Collagen, Tomato and Mala flavour broths. I'm happy to say that these are not diluted soups, and are almost good enough to drink on their own at the start. The flavours be even more complex after you dip in all the ingredients and reduce several top-ups of soup. Best for noodles at the end.



What a glorious feast. Seriously, this is not even the full set of everything, and our family of four could barely finish one round or ask for more.





Seriously SHIOK! There's something about swishing your food in boiling stock, transforming it into a flavourful morsel that will warm your tummy. 

 


For dessert, they have fruit (watermelon and honeydew) and barley with ginkgo nuts. On weekends, there's Nourishing Peach Gum (wow, I love this!) and YAM PASTE!



Orh nee, all you can eat. OMG. Granted, it's not as thick and pasty as you have in Teochew restaurants, but it hits the spot nonetheless.
