Hard Rock Cafe at Changi Airport T3

The Singapore Satay Burger served with cucumber, onions and fries
I love going to the airport. There's something always wonderful about airports. That sense of anticipation and excitement before a trip, or the comforting feel of coming home. Besides, Changi Airport is a particularly welcoming one. I could live there, I bet. There and Narita. Quite happily so.

Changi Airport is also brimming with choices when it comes to food and drink. There are more than a hundred F&B outlets at all three terminals! I never knew there was a Hard Rock Cafe at the airport either - and it's the only Hard Rock Cafe located in an airport, anywhere in the world.

This is located within the departure/transit area, so it's not in the public area. But most of the dishes, like the Singapore Satay Burger above (S$25), are also available at the Hard Rock Cafe in town. You might want to ask for it medium or less done, as ours came a tad dry. Love the chopped cucumber and onion, as that really added to the "satay" experience. We also asked for extra peanut sauce as a dip for the very excellent chips.

Hard Rock Cafe at Changi Airport is the only one of its kind located in an airport
They open as early as 6am and serve breakfast as well. You can even get Hard Rock souvenirs that early. Just make sure you catch your meal and merchandise before midnight, as that's when they take last orders.

Beef Fajitas
Ah the Famous Fajitas - your choice of chicken, beef, shrimp or combos. We had the grilled beef (S$29) that came on a sizzling hotplate, pico de gallo, shredded Jack and Cheddar cheeses, fresh guacamole, shredded lettuce, sour cream and flour tortillas kept toasty warm in a paper envelope. I think this was the healthiest dish on the table!

NZ pepper Steak
The humble-looking NZ Pepper Steak (S$30) turned out to be one of the tastiest. It's a nice 7oz slab or sirloin topped with black peppercorn sauce. Comes with roasted garlic smashed potatoes and fresh vegetables.

Hickory Smoked Bar-B-Que Ribs with fries, ranch beans and coleslaw
If you have a big appetite or a great love of sharing your food, the huge rack of Hickory Smoked Bar-B-Que Ribs (S$32) might fit the bill. Tony Roma's is still a bit more moist and tender, but Tony Roma's is not inside the airport. I do like the ranch beans, fries and coleslaw - deliciously addictive.

The Hurricane - Hard Rock Cafe's signature drink, and our favourite of the evening too!
This Hard Rock Cafe visit was actually the first stop in a bar-hopping experience at Changi Airport. So we were really here to try the drinks, but the food was our "light dinner"...yes, it helps to fill up on yummy greasy stuff if you are about to have some drinks!

This "Hurricane" drink (S$18) is one of their signature drinks, and a pretty large one too. Orange, mango, and pineapple juice with Bacardi Superior Rum, dark rum, amaretto and grenadine. There was enough rum to liven up this sweet potion. I don't know if you'll be swept off your feet, but Hurricane proved to be one of our favourites of the evening.

Two Margaritas and a Crushed Velvet
We also tried two margaritas (left) - the red Exotic Margarita (S$22) with Patron Silver Tequila and triple sec mixed with Monin Pomegranate syrup and margarita mix. The Golden Margarita (S$15) is simpler with just tequila, triple sec and margarita mix, but it was nicer.

I think the one on the right is the Crushed Velvet (S$8) - Monin Pomegranate and Monin Raspberry syrup with fresh lemonade and Sprite. Alcohol-free, but so sweet, it's almost like drinking syrup.

The Groupie Grind - mango puree, pina colada mix and pineapple juice with strawberry swirl
The other non-alcoholic drink was the Groupie Grind (S$8). It's mango puree, pina colada mix and pineapple juice blended with a strawberry swirl. It's like a tropical slushie.

There are a ton of other drinks, including classic cocktails, smoothies, wine, beer, coffee and tea.

And since Hard Rock Cafe is big on memorabilia, you get to take home the glasses for just a bit more:
Hurricane glass (S$12), margarita glass (S$15), and martini glass (S$15).

That was a great start to our exploration of the various bars within Changi Airport across all three terminals. Part 2 coming up next.

Meanwhile, November 2011's theme for Fabulous Fridays at Changi Airport is liquor. Spend a minimum of S$30 by VISA or S$60 by any other means, and enjoy the featured product of the week at a special rate - up to 90% off! Plus the Millionaire Draw is back.
