Tien Lai Rice Stall at Taman Jurong

Superb roast duck!
Let me continue my good finds in the West. I came to the Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre to check out some recommendations from Southernoise who's a regular here. It's pretty far west, but one trip here is not enough - there are many stalls worth checking out! Tien Lai Rice Stall serves excellent Hong Kong style roast duck and meats. Beautiful glistening skin and tender meat! I'm not even a fan of duck, but I enjoyed this tremendously.

Very good char siew too!
The char siew too is gorgeously moist and caramelised. It carries none of the garish red dye that inferior char siew tends to sport. You also get a small bowl of decent soup to go with your rice.

The signboard says RICE, so don't expect noodles here. It's a smart move, actually. Rice can be quickly scooped and served, whereas noodles need cooking. So while there is a queue, it moves pretty fast. Note that they open only from morning til lunchtime (2pm).

  1. Don't even bother trying after 1230
    1) queue is hideous
    2) watch the char siew fly off the shelves as the stall holder cuts meaty chunks off each strip and run out just as you get there

Duck and char siew is good, roasted pork is a little inconsistent

  3. Thanks, guys!

Highlander...I checked my photo timestamp...it was taken around 1pm on a weekday (back in Aug). I must have been really lucky! We did see a queue, but it went quickly.

Liverpool...I wish I could! Sundays are bad for me this month!

  4. Yes, I agreed that this is one of the best roast meat stalls in singapore. THe roast duck and char siew is the best ! The rice is fragrant and the order-take(lao ban niang) is systematic and patient.

I knew as my parents still stay there but I only got the time to go there once in a long while. The same hawker centre also houses a very popular fish ball noodles stall which is right in front of the escalator. The female stall-owner had been operating the stall for more than 20 yrs n it opened till wee hours of the night where the stall is the only 1 opened. try it !

  5. There's one good roast stall at Blk 22 Sin Ming Road in the same coffee shop as the Rong Chen Bak Kut Teh. Bak Kut Teh was so so but the roast here was good!

  7. This is very nice...but normally after 12pm you go there, they have already started to pack up! They sell very fast! The rice was not too oily but very fragrance and the meat....woooo...tender and juicy! I worked in Jurong area so normally if we have meeting, we will go out and packed this back! Everyone loves this in our office! :)

  10. It was recommended by a colleague so we went down today. At 11.30am, the queue was already quite long. Food probably sold out before 1pm. The highlight will be their Char Siew, balanced between the lean meat and fat, well-coated with honey.
