Beauty in The Pot at OneKM Mall: New Bigger Branch On Third Floor

Beauty in a Pot is one of my foodie gangs' favourite hotpot haunts. The collagen broth is something not many places can match, and the ingredients and service never fail to disappoint. While they have a branch at Centrepoint, the original one at OneKM Mall is still better. However, reservations at OneKM Mall are almost impossible and long queues are an everyday sight. So when we heard that they expanded upstairs with a huge 7,600 square feet outlet, this could only be good news.

Beauty in a Pot has extended to the third floor of OneKM Mall
This outlet sure looks different from the rest! It's unabashedly all pink inspired by cherry blossoms in early spring. The restaurant’s flooring features white marble stippled with pink quartz. This symbolises the cherry blossoms that fall on snow-clad land. Everything is decked out in shades of pink - from the entrance to the private rooms, furniture, furnishings and even the charging points.

Private room
The 288-seater outlet also has three private rooms with individual pots. Each room takes up to 10 seats and can be combined to cater to larger groups. In future there will even be a children’s playground, so parents can eat in peace when the kids have had their fill!

Super happy to be finally trying #BeautyInAPot’s new outlet at 3rd level of @onekmmall. #mala #hotpot #steamboat
The new outlet serves six soup bases:
  • Signature Beauty Collagen Broth (Shark’s Cartilage Soup): More than six hours of hard work go into the making of this dense and collagen-rich soup. Freshly prepared every day, the soup features shark's cartilage as the main ingredient. Taste the richness in every sip.
  • Signature Spicy Nourishing Soup (Pork Bone Soup): This moreish soup offers an extra boost for immunity and energy. Simmered for long hours, the pork bone broth is made with luxurious Chinese herbs including one whole ginseng, dang gui, dang shen, red dates, wolf berries and others. The spices and herbs contribute intense flavours. It is available in mild spicy, spicy and extra spicy options.
  • Herbal Drunken Chicken Broth: Fresh kampong chicken is simmered over a small fire for at least two hours, and mixed with an array of premium herbs such as Solomon's seal, codonopsis root, Chinese angelica root and many more. The herbal fragrance, as well as the aroma of the glutinous rice wine, is intoxicating. The broth helps improve blood circulation and strengthens one's immunity.
  • Cooling Coconut Broth: This is a unique culinary creation that will wow palates. The soup base comprises coconut flesh, and a variety of fresh ingredients such as spare ribs, chicken, chicken's feet and snow fungus. The chefs slice open fresh young coconuts and pour the coconut water into the soup base. It helps to nourish the lungs and improve the body's immune system. This is delicate on the taste buds and it also soothes the throat.
  • Longevity Wild Pine Mushroom Broth: this is a vegetarian option
  • Vitamin C Tomato Sweet Corn Broth: the tomato broth for steamboat has become very popular of late. I don't really see the appeal but I've only tried this once at another restaurant.

Perfectly done beef
Customers can request for refills; superior stock is added to the Beauty Collagen Broth; Signature Spicy Nourishing Broth; and Cooling Coconut Broth while clear soup is added to the Herbal Drunken Chicken Broth. Doing so helps to maintain the original flavours of the broths.

The price of a single pot starts from S$14; a quart pot starts from S$5 each.

Beauty in The Pot offers a variety of fresh ingredients ranging from meat and seafood to vegetables and noodles. All the meatballs, meat paste and dumplings are handmade. I still prefer the meat and vegetables to seafood somehow, but I do appreciate that the fish here is at least sliced thickly, so it doesn't disintegrate so easily in the roiling broths. Look at how beautiful the slices are.

But sometimes the side ingredients are the star of the show...

The popular side items at Beauty in The Pot include the Signature Homemade Fish Tofu (S$2/piece) made using with yellowtail fish, soya bean and egg white all blended into a smooth, soft and delicate fish-tofu that melts in your mouth.

The Fried Beancurd Skin (S$4.90/half; S$9.80/full) is irresistibly light and crispy. Everyone I know who has been to Beauty in the Pot calls this their favourite item. Dip it into the broth for no more than three seconds, and it will still retain some crunch while having soaked up the flavours of the soup.

Shrimp dumpling with roe
The handmade Ebiko Prawn Paste (S$18.80) is also excellent. It's shaped out of 100% prawn meat, and the ebiko lends a nice juicy crunch.

Crispy fish skin
Then there's the ever popular fried fish skin. Eat it on its own (we did!) or dip it in the broths.

The condiments bar is also one of my favourite things there. You can mix and match from more than 20 condiments and sauces to create wonderful dips that totally change the taste of your ingredients.

Sauces and condiments galore
Alas it is not free. You'll have to top up S$3.80 per person to enjoy the condiments and a selection of fresh fruits.
