Gourmet food store jones the grocer at Dempsey Hill refreshed!

Do you remember when Australia’s jones the grocer first opened in Singapore? It brought us interesting exotic products to gawk at, and a lovely dining space to enjoy brunch. The walk-in cheese room, the first of its kind here, created waves. It was all very "atas" (upmarket). That was almost nine years ago. How time flies.

Now with LMVH's backing, the famed gourmet food purveyor is introducing new products for everyday living.

The new retail offering has many ‘Great Taste’ awards: you can find some fascinating items like the exotic African-inspired range, Bim’s Kitchen, handmade by husband-and-wife team Bim and Nic Adedejic using ingredients such as the African baobab fruit; this label has continuously bagged the “Great Taste” award from 2011 to 2015.

There's a brand new butcher’s corner by Swiss Butchery offering premium meats that include both grass-fed and grain-fed beef; antibiotic- hormone- and cage-free chicken; Iberico free-range pork; succulent veal and award-winning Sovereign 5 Star Lamb cuts and all-natural prime lamb from Victoria, Australia.

You're welcome to query the helpful staff on the types and cuts available, recommended marinades and even recipes. The meats can be brought home with or without marinating, or cooked a la minute to be enjoyed at jones or delivered home at one's convenience.

The walk-in cheese room is still there, offering artisanal farmstead cheese handpicked from France, Italy, England and Spain. The selection is categorised according to the cheese type – blue, soft, semi-soft, hard, fresh and rind wash – with each type complemented with its specific accompaniments such as dried fruits, nuts, fruit pastes, chutneys, fruit logs, truffle honey, crackers, crispbread and fresh breads, plus accessories (cheese knives and platters).

You can find one of the most expensive cheeses, the Wyfe of Bath from Bath, England; the creamy and punchy Roquefort Vieux Berger blue cheese from Rouergue, France; and the luxuriously creamy Gorgonzola Dolce from Lombardy, Italy.

By the way, I also spotted my favourite butter -- Beurre d'Isigny!

For dining in, jones has introduced comfort food using ingredients that are also available on its retail shelves.

These are served with truffle honey, jones olive oils, jones Egyptian dukkah and a selection of jones artisanal bread. The honey with truffle is simply divine and completely brings the cheese to a whole new flavour dimension.

jones still has the eggs and omelettes done 10 ways for breakfast from 8am to noon on weekdays, til 3pm on weekends.

All-day dining kicks in from noon with a wide selection including the Super foods salad with wholesome ingredients such as broccoli, toasted almonds, chickpeas, lentils, sweet potato and barley tossed dressed with pomegranate honey; and the Asian Black Cod pan-seared with Asian-style herbs, asparagus and light teriyaki sauce.

Oriental Crispy Duck ($26++)

jones Classic Wagyu Burger With Truffle Fries ($26++)

Note that this is a tasting portion; the actual burger is two or three times bigger! If I'm ever back at jones, I'm going to have this juicy treat all over again.

Asparagus Risotto ($24++)

Gluten-free and vegetarian!

Spicy Seafood Aglio Olio (28++)

With so many gourmet items under one roof, jones is a great place to put together impressive gift hampers too.
