Hotel G Singapore: Staycation in the City

Hotel G at 200 Middle Road is a surprisingly convenient location if you're looking for a place to stay in Singapore that's near Orchard Road but also close to the Bugis and Arab Street retail precincts; the arts, civic and museums district; Marina Bay and Esplanade, as well as Suntec City Convention Centre.

It's almost walkable to many places, but the nearest MRTs are Bugis and Dhoby Ghaut.

Hotel G Lobby
The hotel lobby is actually on the second floor. Most taxis should know the entrance up the ramp from behind the building as they undergo training to learn about new hotels and destinations. UBER or Grab drivers might need some help. If you're arriving by bus or train with luggage, there are lifts you can take; you don't have to drag them through the first floor restaurant.

Here's a quick video tour of the rooms!

Bed
The rooms are cute and cosy. There are three categories: Good (11-13 sqm), Great (15-16 sqm) and Greater (27sqm). Yes, some of them are really small but they reminds me wonderfully of some hotels in Japan. That feeeeel.

Had a nice staycation at arts-themed @hotelgsingapore ! Rooms are compact but #cosy, and the hotel is conveniently near heart of the city. #hotel #travel #staycation #singapore #exploresingapore #hotelroom
We love the dreamcatcher lighting fixture on the ceiling.

We loved the #dreamcatcher above the beds at @hotelgsingapore - it's not only #colourful but casts pretty #shadows on the #ceiling. #hotelgsingapore #hotel #singapore #travel #exploresingapore #sghotel
Look at the pretty shadows the colourful ribbons cast on the ceiling.

I love this study nook
I absolutely adore this little study nook in the bigger room. It's so cosy and yet the confined space forces you to focus on the very tasks at hand. I wish I had this at home; I could accomplish so much!

Vanity area outside bathroom
The vanity is outside the bathroom. Clever usage of mirrors help make the space look much bigger than it is. We liked the rain shower in the bathrooms too. It's all so new and clean.

Toiletries at Hotel G conveniently in tube form (easier than bottles!)
METIS toiletries are provided in convenient tube form. These work way better than the tiny and rigid plastic bottles that make it almost impossible to squeeze any product out of.

Hot and cold water dispenser
There is bottled water but no kettle for boiling water in the room. However, just outside in the hallway is a hot and cold water dispenser. It's quite convenient to get either for your in-room drinks. What would make this complete (and very Japanese) are vending machines!

The girls were so happy
The girls were very happy here. It's kid-friendly with special corner rooms that have their own private alcove that connect two rooms. There's no swimming pool but there is a fitness centre, and plenty to explore in the vicinity.

Downstairs there are two restaurants - Ginett Wine Bar & Restaurant and 25 Degrees.

25 Degrees
25 Degrees is a burger and liquor bar from the US offering burgers and shakes.

The @25degreesinsingapore Number One #Burger: 200g ground sirloin with Caramelized Onions, Crescenza, Pelibato #Gorgonzola, #Bacon, Arugula and Thousand Island on a grilled homemade brioche bun. Only $14. Mmmmh!

Boback Hot Dog ($5) are 1-for-1 between 3-7pm at @25degreesinsingapore -- doubly delicious #bacon-wrapped #sausages! #hotdog #25degrees #25degreessingapore

Waffle Tower only S$5!
Guess how much this Waffle Tower is? Only S$5! But only from 3-5pm

Ginett upstairs during breakfast
Ginett is where you have your buffet breakfast. In the mornings it is closed off to the public. This is the upstairs section with all the savoury items.

Ginett at breakfast time
The breads, baked goods, sweets and juices are all downstairs.

Hotel G Buffet Breakfast
There's actually a fairly decent selection of both Asian and Western breakfast favourites.

Hotel G at night
Hotel G is right at the junction of Middle Road and Bencoolen Street. There is a 7-Eleven nearby and some supper places too. Right next door is the 24-hour Al Jilani Indian Muslim eatery.

This hotel is great for singles, couples and small families. Now I'm curious about the other hotels in the group - they have Hotel G in San Francisco, Yangon, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and soon in Seoul too.

  1. I think this hotel is more suitable for budget travelers than staycation because it has no facility whatsoever.

    1. Haha, quite true, Hotel G is not a resort or full-fledged hotel but it makes a great base for exploring the surroundings which are quite interesting.
